Adam Pate, Corporate Caricature Artist, frequently
got sent to the principal for drawing friends and teachers
in class. (Does this surprise you?) His principal encouraged
him to think about a career as a caricature artist. In college,
Adam joined the freelance program and started walking around,
drawing drunken idiots in hyper-crowded, barely lit restaurants,
bars and nightclubs for tips. Being self taught, nobody
told him that it was something most caricature artists have
nightmares about. Being an easy going guy, he got along
just fine.
It didn’t take long for him to realize that the faster
he drew, the better the pictures came out and the more money
he could make. One day while he was drawing, he noticed
somebody in the crowd of people watching was timing him.
Until then, he had no idea how fast he was drawing! Adam
is not bothered by situations that would inhibit other artists
and entertainers from performing. He usually books by the
amount of guests expected and is committed to draw and entertain
every single one of them.
For extremely large events, or if Adam Pate is already
booked, several additional caricature artists are available.
Only the fastest, friendliest and most talented artists
in the country are on Adam’s backup list. Just 2 artists
should be able to draw over 100 people per hour! Adam is
fully insured.
Party caricature specifics
Adam Pate draws with industrial lumber crayons made by Amark
in Eugene, OR that were created for woodsmen who mark logs
in the field. The crayons are non-toxic, biodegradable and
create no waste or smell. The wax is very dark and smooth
and provides a variety of line quality and tones that you
can’t get with traditional markers. Crayons give the
artwork a warm, friendly look like charcoal, without being
as smudgy. In some situations, a special DARICE refillable
paint brush marker filled with India ink is used. Crayons
and watercolor paint are used for color drawings. (Children
love this!) Please allow about 3 -5 minutes per color caricature
drawing with body gags. (Yield = about 15 drawings per hour).
Adam also does digital caricatures in a program called Adobe
Illustrator, a vector based program, meaning the drawings
look the same large or small. It’s great for use in
focused promotions and combination illustrations. Digital
takes about 8 -12 minutes each and guests can watch as it
is being made. (Yield = about 6 -10 drawings per hour)

It’s just typing paper? The heaviest and brightest
8.5" x 11", 100% recycled paper available. It’s
easy to find frames for, copy and scan. Also makes it easy
and cheap to put your message or pre drawn situations on
the front or (preferably) back of the paper for promotions,
souvenirs and party favors.
Instead of an easel, Adam draws caricatures on a 9 x12
“A frame” form holder/clipboard that is perfect
for navigating heavy traffic while strolling in a crowd.
The drawing board is covered with a child’s placemat
(which gets some chuckles...) The hard foam provides an
ideal drawing surface for crayons. Adam provides rubber
bands to protect rolled up drawings.
(When sitting) A colorful roll up sign attracts attention
to Adam‘s location. It takes up about 2 square feet
of floor and stands about 5’ tall. The sign says that
the caricature drawings are free, how long they will be
available for and that Adam encourages guests to watch him
draw and time him using the timer attached to the sign.
Nothing else is needed except for 3 or 4 chairs and a bunch
of funny faces to draw. When sitting, Adam needs about 12
square feet of space and room for a line to form in front
of him from his right shoulder. The crowd faces the artist
so he can see them and they can watch him. If strolling
he just jumps right into the crowd and starts sketching!
For best results, please keep Adam warm and dry throughout
your event.
