Dressed in full psychedelic regalia, Johnny
Edwards and Blue Wild Gypsy recreate the monumental experience of Jimi
Hendrix's live performances. Audiences are treated to a wide spectrum
of Hendix's music, including classic hits such as "Foxy Lady," All
Along the Watchtower," "Purple Haze," "Red House," "Manic
Depression," "Hey Joe," and many more. Blue Wild Gypsy
presents a unique Hendrix tribute performance which transports audiences
to a 60’s dimension through both auditory and visual experiences,
including Edwards’ striking resemblance to the late guitar wizard.
Hailing from the New England Coast, Johnny
Edwards is described by the New England Blues Society as “a guitarist
who likes to play music that rips the guts out of his instrument and
lays out a song like a cadaver on a cold, marble, slab.” Having
performed on the Northeast and Canadian rock scenes for more than 20
years, Edwards has played in everything from funk show bands and disco
to R&B and rock and blues.
For nearly a decade, Johnny Edwards has
fronted his own hard-driving blues band, “The Electric Blue Flames,” a
high-energy trio which has received great critical acclaim for their
impeccable interpretations of blues icons such as Muddy Waters, Elmore
James, B.B. King, and Jimi Hendrix. It was this highly acclaimed group
that provided the foundation for “Blue Wild Gypsy,” the premiere
Jimi Hendrix tribute.
Edwards has had the opportunity to share
the stage with many national artists, including Rick Derringer, Johnny
Winter, Johnny Copeland, Mac Adom (Roomful of Blues), and Hendrix drummer
Buddy Miles (Band of Gypsys). Edwards’ bands have also opened for
the Ojays, Roberta Flack, Peaches and Herb, the Ohio Players, and Sly & the
Family Stone, to name a few.
Blue Wild Gypsy’s lineup includes
the highly talented bassist John Astore and the explosive drummer Skip
Fischer, who has toured the world with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Alex
Taylor (with Dan Ackroyd), James Montgomery, and Matt “Guitar” Murphy.
Together, Blue Wild Gypsy delivers a passionate and powerful recreation
of Hendix’s extraordinary music that is fueled by the enthusiastic
response of Hendrix’s ageless fan base. Audiences leave each show
knowing they have paid tribute to this legendary artist and one of the
most inspiring catalogs of music in history.
Blue Wild Gypsy has performed at
festivals, theaters, clubs, colleges, and on radio and television.
Blue Wild Gypsy has also been featured in such publications as The
Official Hendrix Experience Magazine (2000), Rolling Stone Magazine
(2003), and The Worcester Phoenix Magazine (2000).
