When Gillia sings, it is not just entertainment but a musical event.
".... and when I get grown up, I'm gonna
travel all around the world and my voice is going to take me there " That's
what Gillia, at age 5, told her mother while standing in the kitchen
doorway of their Bronx apartment. Young Gillia would spend countless
hours in front of a mirror singing to her favorite artists: Barbara Streisand,
Micki Howard, Judy Garland, and Aretha Franklin whom today she credits
for teaching her how to control her powerful vocal range and honing her
vocal technique. Now Gillia is all grown up and is fulfilling her childhood
prophecy.
Born in Harlem, New York, this five-foot powerhouse
has enthralled people with her belting soprano soulful voice since her
humble beginning in the church. It was at one of her church testimonial
services where a very young, timid Gillia rendered her first public solo
selection which incredibly roused the congregation into a hand clapping
praise and shouting frenzy... and she's been captivating audiences ever
since.
In a short time, Gillia has distinguished
herself with winning performances throughout the United States, South
America and Europe. Moreover, she has provided musical entertainment
for Coca Cola, Six Flags Amusement Park, and many other major corporations.
In addition, she has rendered headliner performances for major cruise
lines, various charities and trade shows & conventions to name a
few.
With a strict mother who sang Gospel and Country
music all day long and saxophonist father who listened to everything
else, an extraordinary vocalist was inevitable. Gillia enjoys singing
and songwriting with a passion. "Just for the Love of It" --
one of her recent talented original creations -- is a definite soul stirring
delivery of a love ballad passionately demonstrating her multi-octave
range. This song actually came to her while in the midst of a soapy shower.
Of course there was paper, pencil and a hand-held recorder nearby. In
addition, "See Ya!" ( her CD debut) is filled with sassy lyrics
and dazzling Euro-danceable beats to keep you moving. It is not surprising
that this versatile songstress is pursuing a career in both the recording
and acting industry.
