Michael Amante, one of the most talked about
American tenors on either side of the pop/classical divide,
creates buzz among everyone who hears his voice. A charismatic, romantic
tenor, Michael Amante captures in song the heartand soul of pure romance.
His self-titled
debut album
took the world by storm, placing him #1 on Billboard Magazine’s
2002 Year-End Top Midline Classical Artists chart and putting him in
the company of the world’s great tenors Luciano Pavarotti, Placido
Domingo, and Jose Carreras. The album, a collection of the greatest
and most challenging operatic arias and art songs which has become
one of
the best selling recordings of its kind, also ranked #5 in the Top
Midline Classical Albums category.
Michael Amante has been hailed as “The Fourth
Tenor by Regis Philbin, “The next Mario Lanza” by artist
Tony Bennett, and “the golden-voiced tenor” by the New York
Post. When Pavarotti became ill before a performance, it was Michael
Amante he asked to take his place. Clearly Amante is a world-class talent
whose time has come.
Gifted with a four-octave, operatic range and able to
sing in a variety of languages, including Italian, Spanish, French, German,
Latin, and Polish, Amante is considered to be one of the most versatile
and gifted performers on the stage today. A true crossover artist, he
records and performs in a vast array of styles, including classical,
Italian art, pop/rock, gospel, and Broadway with a flair, finesse, and
finely crafted artistry that puts this virtuoso vocalist in a class of
his own. As the Philadelphia Exclusive notes, “Amante rewrites
the book on anyone’s idea of what a tenor can be.”
Amante has performed for countless dignitaries, including
former U.S. Presidents Ford, Bush, and Clinton, the late Pope John Paul
II, and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He has performed to sold-out
concerts across the country at venues including New York’s Lincoln
Center and Town Hall, Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall, and numerous other major
halls seating 1,000 to 8,000. He performs regularly in Las Vegas at the
Stardust Casino and Caesar’s Palace, headlines at The Tropicana
and The Sands Casino in Atlantic City, and is a popular television personality.
Michael’s many television appearances include: “Live
with Regis Philbin,” ABC’s “The View” with Barbara
Walters, “The Best Damn Sports Show, Period” with Tom Arnold, “Fox
5 Morning Show,” “The Tony Danza Show,” and “Emeril
Live” with Emeril Lagasse on the Food Network. Amante has also
performed at a myriad of nationally televised sporting events and major
stadiums throughout the country, including Madison Square Garden, Shea
Stadium, Giants Stadium, Camden Yards, Foxborough Field, the Belmont
Park Raceway, and the US Open. His PBS special entitled “Michael
Amante” received a regional Emmy Award nomination and has been
used by Public Broadcasting to raise tens of thousands of dollars during
their annual pledge drives.
Amante second album, “Tell Her I Love Her,” was
produced by the legendary Phil Ramone and his music director/conductor
is the distinguished songwriter/producer/arranger Herb Bernstein (Walking
My Cat Named Dog, See You in September, Go Away Little Girl, Wedding
Bell Blues, Candida, Knock Three Times.) Bernstein has recorded with
Tina Turner, Al Hirt, Tony Orlando, Frankie Valli, and John Denver, and
he has conducted orchestras from “The Tonight Show” to Caesar’s
Palace and Carnegie Hall.
“Michael is one of the best performers I’ve
conducted,” says Bernstein. “He consistently wins over his
audience night after night after receiving standing ovations not only
after, but during a performance.” Together with Bernstein, Amante
produced his third and most personal release, “Humbled,” a
work of love in tribute to gospel greats Steve Green and Larnelle Harris.
Amante believes that “love must be a vital part
of who we are and how we view life. It colors our world view, and it
is the greatest of the gifts we receive and the the most precious gift
we can give those around us.” As a boy growing up in a NY family
of five children, he marveled at how his father could always sweep his
mother off her feet simply by singing to her. “I wanted to make
people feel that good too,” says Amante. “My father would
come home for lunch and sing to my mother. He was my inspiration to be
romantic and a singer.”
The influence of his father and family is also strongly
evident in Amante’s current project, a patriotic album with funds
being designated to organizations benefiting U.S. veterans and their
families. For example, one of the nonprofit organizations is Freedom
Alliance, which is dedicated to providing scholarships for children of
disabled or deceased veterans. Amante’s father flew 91 combat missions
as a WWII fighter pilot, and this project reflects Amante’s patriotism
and dedication to honoring those who have served our country.
Amante is also a talented gourmet chef with recipes
published in the magazine “Pasta,” and he is an accomplished
painter, illustrator, sculptor, and carpenter. He resides in Long Island,
NY with his wife Seema and their three children. .
