"He don't look like the
guy on the beer bottle . . ."
No, he doesn't look like the guy on the beer bottle. For
the record, this Sam Adams is the stand-up comedian who
made a name for himself in the world of comedy by winning
at the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival.
Smooth. Clever. Clean. Colorful. Funny. Those words are
used often to describe Sam Adams, who was 41 years old in
2001 when he went on stage for the first time at an open
mic comedy show. Today he performs as a headliner, featured
act, guest speaker and master of ceremonies at comedy clubs,
concerts, private parties and corporate events. He has shared
stages with touring comedians and music recording artists
- an eclectic, genre-jumping list of nationally-known performers
ranging from comedians Frank Caliendo and Mike Epps to music's
David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Rick Springfield, The Guess Who,
Starship and The Lettermen.
During the summer of 2003, Sam Adams entered a radio station's
comedy contest held at Denver's famed Comedy Works. He advanced
to the finals and received a favorable review from the Denver
Business Journal for "bringing down the house with
a string of well-delivered lines that were notable for their
lack of profanity, scatological or sexual references."
Later that year he took third place (in a field of 100 comics)
at the Comedy Works annual New Talent competition.
Off the record, Sam Adams has more than 20 years of experience
as a sports journalist. In 2003 he received the "Print
Journalist of the Year" award from the Colorado Association
of Black Journalists. Sam Adams has covered championship
events at all levels - most notable four Super Bowls, two
Olympics, two NCAA men's basketball Final Fours, one Stanley
Cup Finals and one World Series.
