Stig Rossen trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 1990
Stig did an open audition for the London production of Les Misérables.
He was offered a place in the ensemble and after just three months he was
asked to take over the lead role of Jean Valjean. This dream part gave
him his international breakthrough and to this day he has played the part
almost 1500 times in 10 different countries.
Stig has recorded a number of albums, including "Starry Starry
Nights", "The Impossible Dream", "Live In Concert", "Letters
Of Love", ”Julelys”, ”Stories” and “Love
Changes Everything”. In 2004 a double CD and DVD titled “This
Is the Moment” was distributed both in Denmark and USA. This was
the result of a live concert produced in English for an international
audience. Stig recorded a new Christmas CD in 2006 entitled “Naar
du ser et stjerneskud” (“When You Wish upon a Star”)
and it went on sale in November.
In 2001, Stig Rossen and Musical Director Mikkel Roennow founded a production
company called Rossen & Roennow Musical Productions, which aimed
at producing musicals of an international standard for a Danish audience.
Rossen & Roennow produced three shows, the award nominated version
of “Chess” in 2001 where Stig played the part of Anatoly,
Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” in 2002 with Stig playing
the part of Tony Forte and their special version of “Les Misérables” in
2003 where Stig of course played Jean Valjean again.
In Denmark, Stig Rossen has appeared in numerous musicals, e.g. ”Tordenskiold”,
”Les Misérables”, ”Chess”,
”Egtved Pigen” (“The Egtved Girl”),
”Ballader om Kunst og Kaerlighed” (“Ballads
Of Art And Love”), “Jesus Christ Superstar”
and “Kaerlighedens Farve” (“The Colour
Of Love”).
Apart from his work in the musical theatre his career spans from concert
tours to TV-parts and he has voiced Disney characters in the animated
features “Mulan”, “Mulan 2” and ”Lilo & Stitch”.
Furthermore, he has recorded the Danish versions of the songs from ”Tarzan”, ”Tarzan
2” and “Brother Bear”. He has recorded duets with Nana
Mouskouri and the late Grethe Ingmann and appeared as special guest on
recordings by Per Nielsen and DJ Alligator among others.
Stig Rossen was appointed HCA ambassador in 2005 in connection with
the 200 birthday of the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. 2005 was
also the year when Stig was invited to North America by the TV-network
PBS which resulted in a number of television concerts in USA and Canada.
In April 2005 he gave his first concert tour in USA.
Stig published his biography ”Livet skal ikke leves på automatpilot” (“Life
should not be lived on automatic pilot”) in October 2006. It is
a combined textbook and biography based on his lecture “Kys rutinen” (”Kiss
the routine”) and draws on personal experience from his life and
career.
