BIO
Virgil Gibson began his amazing career in Birmingham, Alabama
at age 9, when he sang at churches with various professional
gospel singers. As a teenager, Virgil admired Tony Williams,
the original lead singer of the Platters, and he prayed
that one day he would sing with the Platters. He became
lead singer of the Platters, because according to Virgil,
“I asked God and He just fixed it that I could sing
with them". Just before being born, Virgil’s
mother prayed that God would give her child a "golden
voice”. Virgil believes God answered that prayer.
Virgil’s personal ministry is to use his God given
gifts and bring joy to audiences large and small.
Virgil Gibson was lead singer for members of the original
Platters for ten years, spanning the mid 1960's and 1970's.
His performances with the Platters and Rivingtons took him
around the world to many countries including Japan, Korea,
Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Philippines, as well as across
the United States and Canada. Concert audiences were in
the tens of thousands. Virgil appeared with various groups
and individuals including; the Drifters, the Coasters, the
O-Jays, Bobby Day, Dee Clark and Al Wilson. Virgil was also
lead singer for over 17 years with the popular Rivingtons,
whose hit includes “Papa Oom Maw Maw". Virgil’s
recent CD recordings, “Virgil Gibson Sings the Oldies”
Volume I and II, bring back the best of the Golden Age of
the 50’s and 60’s music. Audiences of all ages
and cultures thrill to Virgil’s six octave voice and
charismatic personality. Virgil recently completed, “I
Made It Back Home”, an album of traditional gospel
favorites. Virgil’s limited edition CD single, “Be
My Christmas Present”, is a favorite any time of year.
